Isavasyam

Whatever exists in this world
Is imbued with the spirit of God.
Enjoy what's imparted by him
Never hanker after others' wealth.

Doing all your prescribed duties
Try to live your hundred years' span.
Only thus, there's no other way,
Will one be free of one's past deeds.

The sunless worlds
In utter blinding dark-
Into them go from here,
Who deny their own Selves.

It is unmoving, the one only,
Faster than the mind,
The gods couldn't catch up
As it sped in front.

Standing It overtakes
Others that run;
The celestial wind, in It
Bears the waters of creation.

It moves, It does not move,
It is far and It is close by,
It is inside of all things,
It is outside too of all.

Who sees all created things
In his own self,
And himself in all things,
Will not be repelled by the world

When all the creatures of this world
Have become his own self,
When he sees the oneness of all things,
To him, whence any doubt, whence any grief!

He spread out, clear of stain, unembodied, pure,
Indivisible, sinewless, devoid of faults,
The self-born creative Intelligence pervading all,
Made all things in order for all time to come.

Into blind darkness fall they
Who to material knowledge are wed.
Deeper than they, sink, it seems,
Who in spiritual learning revel.

Those wise men,
Who commented on this, said, we hear,
That with vidya is one thing,
And with avidya another.

Who understands both together
Vidya and avidya too,
With avidya, beating death,
Through vidya immortality gains.

Into blind darkness fall they
Who to the evanescent are wed,
Deeper than they, sink, it seems,
Who in the eternal revel.

Those wise men
Who commented on this, said, we hear,
That with the eternal is one thing,
And with the transient another.

Who understands both together
The eternal and the evanescent,
With the evanescent beating death,
Through the eternal immortality gains.
With golden bowl is covered
The face of Truth.
God, remove it
So I have a full look at Truth.

You, the one seer of all,the controller,
Sun, descended from the Creator
Collect your rays, concentrate your effulgence-
Lo the most auspicious form of yours I see,
That person who emerges is verily what I am.

Air, fire, water,
And then the body that turns to ashes in the end-
My soul, remember
Remember, my soul, all your past.

Fire, lead us for our good along the righteous path
You who know all that's pure,
Burn away the creeping sins of ours.
Again and again we pay obeisance to you.
